How to save money on your wedding cake

More often these days, wedding couples are looking to cut costs when planning a wedding. One major expense that troubles couples is the cost of the cake. The cost of wedding cakes can be ridiculous. A professional cake can be as expensive as $10 per slice. Even if you had a small wedding, you could still be looking at a $1000 cake! Add on delivery and set up charges and the price goes through the roof. Does anyone really want to spend that much just on their cake?

A wedding cake is a symbol of a bride and groom’s joyous day and it’s one of the anticipated decorations that guests look forward to at a reception. So how does one still have a beautiful cake-without all the expense?

Below are 4 tips to obtaining a cake within your budget and still be happy with it.

1. Choose a simple cake.

Simple does not have to mean boring or dull. Sure, some brides must have the seven tier wedding cake with all the bells and whistles but sometimes-like a wedding dress- simple can be stunning. Choose to not include special icing decoration and add your own flowers instead.

2. Have a cupcake wedding cake.

Cupcake wedding cakes are the latest craze in wedding planning. They are stylish, yet very inexpensive. You can have them professionally made, or even do them yourself. Cupcake wedding cakes allow you to have different flavors for your guests, which is another added benefit.

3. DIY wedding cake.

There are more brides baking their own wedding cakes these days to help cut wedding costs. Invite the bridal party over and make it a fun group project. Michael Craft Store offers cake making classes too at an affordable price. Wedding Bliss Magazine has different cake photos and cake sources for cake ideas.

4. Hire a friend.

If you don’t know the slightest bit about baking, ask around if anyone knows someone who loves to bake and is pretty good at it. Offer to pay for supplies and decorations and also pay them for their services. They probably would love to do it and make some extra cash in the process-or, offer it as a wedding gift!

Planning a wedding on a budget takes creativity and can be fun at the same time. Saving money on your cake will take a big chunk out of your wedding expenses, allowing you to splurge on another part of your wedding.
